When SmithKline Beecham decided to consolidate their operations into one
corporate campus, they selected Keating Building Corporation as their
construction manager. This multi-phased project included the development
of a 120,000 sq.ft. Molecular Biology Laboratory facility and 480,000
sq.ft. of Office and Research space.
The building was designed as an integral series of connected wings, rather
than as separate buildings in a more loosely organized campus setting.
Laboratories were built in 10' x 25' modules to provide researchers sufficient
space for AP Chemistry, Drug Metabolism, Pharmacology, Biology, Medical,
Chemistry, Clinical Research, Pharmaceutics and Process Chemistry. Secondary
interactive spaces were programmed, including conversation alcoves, lounges,
and a vendeteria alongside a landscaped atrium. Public conference and
lobby areas received high-tech treatments and high-level finishes
