The Civic Square District
The Historic Stegmaier
Wilkes Barre, PA
Client's Need: To redevelop the old Stegmaier Brewery complex (a once dynamic symbol of the community's proud industrial heritage) into Class A office space for the Postal Service and the General Services Administration.
Keating's Role: Keating Development Company provided a full range of services, from concept development through property acquisition, financing, environmental investigation, design, construction and ongoing property management. With the exception of design, all services were provided by Keating-affiliated companies. Because it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the proposed development was subject to the review of the State Historic Preservation Office.
Results: By working with the city, state and federal governments, the public and private partners involved were able to realize their respective goals and make the community stronger in the end. The transformation of the Stegmaier resulted in 105,000 sq. ft. of office space for the General Services Administration and the United States Postal Service and triggered new downtown investment. The project received numerous awards, including the Community Involvement Initiative Award and the Preservation Award for Adaptive Reuse.
