In December 1997, a team formed by Sun International consisting of Keating Building Corporation, David Rockwell & Associates Architects, and Friedmutter & Associates Architects developed a program, design, and budget for the $28.4 Million complete renovation of 500 guestrooms and suites within the main hotel tower of Resorts International Hotel and Casino. The plan also included the complete renovation and theming of existing casino spaces, the design and construction of three new restaurants, a new high-roller gaming lounge, Baccarat pit, new hotel front desk and lobby area, new entrance road and Porte Cochere, and modifications and theming of the exterior boardwalk facade.
Since the casino, restaurants, and hotel renovations work required high-level finishes and elements that were perceived and designed by David Rockwell & Associates extensive mock-ups were required to be built in a short period of time towards maintaining the overall project schedule. Keating, through its knowledge of the local marketplace, the gaming industry, and national suppliers, was able to quickly and competitively procure the highly specialized materials, features, and products. With the mock-ups quickly constructed, approvals were expedited and the momentum of the work was never compromised.
