A total of 17 departments were involved in the renovations portion of this fully-occupied, high-rise project in which a three-story 167,000 sq. ft. Ambulatory Care Facility was added to a13-year old 213-bed hospital. The Emergency Department expanded in its present location to provide more space for patients and their families. Other renovated areas include Coronary Care Unit, Surgery and Recovery, ECG/EEG, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Social Services, Gift Shop and Snack Bar, Main Lobby, Admissions, and Medical Records. A second Intensive Care/Cardiac Care Unit was incorporated to relieve high occupancy rates experienced by the hospital.
The project involved removal and replacement of all exterior pre-cast brick; over 57,000 lineal feet of exterior wall and 734 brick panels. Interior included new window installations and interior finish work. Patients were moved to swing space areas while work was being performed. Due to the full cooperation and communication of the project team and the hospital staff, the project was completed six months ahead of schedule and below budget.
