Middlesex County Courthouse Renovation

After successfully completing the new Middlesex County Family Courthouse (Phase III of the Civic Square Initiative) Keating was again selected as co-developer and construction manager to renovate and reconfigure the former Family Court space in the County Courthouse to accommodate the remaining judicial functions.
After extensive analysis to determine the best use with an eye towards future needs, it was determined that a complete floor by floor modernization was necessary. Since the building is currently occupied by the Middlesex County Courts System of New Jersey, this renovation was multi-phased, with each floor representing a distinct phase.
The $22 million rehabilitation provides a new public entrance with more efficient and extensive security operations, additional secured elevators, improved jury assembly areas and fully updated HVAC, electrical, plumbing, communications and fire life safety systems. All of the 30+ courtrooms are renovated and updated to conform to state-mandated guidelines. The dated exterior facade received a much needed face-lift, greatly enhancing the overall streetscape, and an adjacent residential tower now provides an additional three floors of office space for the courts.
