Civic Square III represents another piece of New Brunswick's multi-phased development initiative to connect the business district with its government and cultural communities. Civic Square III encompasses a 100,000 sq. ft. family courthouse and 500-car parking garage. It also contains a mixture of three large jury courtrooms, six smaller non-jury courtrooms, three hearing rooms, support spaces for judges, staff, and visitors, including private offices, open office areas, conference rooms, a library, jury assembly and deliberation rooms, a sallyport and holding areas for detainees, family visitation areas, child care facilities and a two-story public lobby. The courthouse provides separate circulation for the public, prisoners, jurors, staff and judges.
The courthouse is designed to be a major civic presence with its terraced forecourt, monumental stairs, large columns and an overhanging canopy.
