Max Rosenn United States District Courthouse
Wilkes-Barre, PA

Keating Development Company and the U.S. Postal Service jointly redeveloped this former Post Office on South Main Street in Wilkes-Barre into a new state-of-the-art federal courthouse.

The original 75,000 sq ft building, constructed in the early 1930’s, has a classical limestone facade and masonry and limestone exterior to the rear of the structure. A recent 5,000 sq ft one-story addition at the northwest corner was demolished and a new 14,000 sq ft two-story addition constructed in its place.

The reconfigured first floor of the courthouse contains two bankruptcy courts, one magistrate court, jury suites, judges’ chambers, and Marshal’s area - including holding cells and office space, and a secure garage. The second level houses court support staff, a probation office, and an appeals court judge’s chambers. The basement houses mechanical equipment and a prisoner circulation corridor for the secure movement of prisoners from holding areas to the courtrooms.
