Keating Building Corporation was selected as construction manager for this $24 million multi-phased project to expand and renovate the Northampton County Correctional Facility. The scope includes a 62,000 sq ft addition and renovations to the existing prison.
Phase I includes construction of a new intake facility, adding a third floor to the work release building, and alterations to existing shower areas in buildings E and F.
Phase II includes the design and construction of a new tower A-B 3-story prison complex located at Union and Lehigh Avenues in Easton, PA. This 57,300 sq ft building includes 160 medium security beds and 70 female maximum security beds. The complex also includes a new main public entrance and lobby, exercise yard, sallyport entrance, renovations of the work release building, limited staff facilities and new mechanical and electrical rooms.
Phase III will involve the installation of new sprinkler and smoke evacuation systems within the existing prison, and is scheduled to commence once the new prison is accepted and operational.
Phase IV will include the construction of an additional 3-level, 230-bed housing unit. These units will be erected on the same footprint as the new Tower A and B location. A feasibility study is scheduled for the expansion of the existing multi-level parking deck along Washington Avenue. Additional funding will have to be appropriated for Phase IV construction along with a review of the master plan
