Keating Building Corporation was selected to provide Construction Management services to the City of Philadelphia for the Women’s Detention Facility project which involved construction of a new 124,000 sq ft, 6-level precast concrete structure with 384 double occupancy cells and an attached 75,000 sq ft Administrative Support Building of structural steel and masonry facade.
The $42 million facility was designed specifically for women with full medical, dental and x-ray suites. All cells are electronically and remotely controlled by a state-of-the-art detention system which allows for monitoring and control from both selected cell Unit Control and Main Central Control areas. The facility is equipped with a communications network which links staff and inmate telephone and data through a strategically placed network of CAT 5 and fiber-optic hubs, and includes training and classrooms for inmate rehabilitation, recreation spaces, in-house laundry and re-therm food preparation. New state-of-the-art life safety systems are in place, such as smoke, evacuation, 100% emergency generator redundancy, surveillance cameras and halogen emergency lighting. The project also included dual fuel boiler and chiller plants.
