Keating Building Corporation, in joint venture with Healy Management Services, was selected to provide Construction Management services to the State of Delaware Department of Administrative Services, Division of Facilities Management (DAS/DFM), for completion of this $54 million, 600-Bed Maximum Security Expansion Project.
Of the 15 buildings included in the Project, six (6) are Housing Units. The 100 cell housing units are clustered into two groups, Maximum Security, and Administrative Segregation (Super-maximum). The three (3) units in each group are connected to a Support Facility for that complex. The housing buildings are constructed in an “X” configuration. The wings use precast concrete cells and insulated precast concrete wall panels to support a hollow core concrete plank ceiling, which is covered by a structural steel and metal deck A-frame roof.
The center core contains the security control center and mechanical equipment that services all four wings, as well as the control point for access to Support Building connecting link. The work also included a new Gatehouse, Kitchen/Dining Facility, Laundry, Armory, Visiting & Administrative Complex, and an Execution Suite that service both the expansion and the existing prison facility.
