Rutgers
University Center at Easton Avenue New Brunswick, NJ As Construction Manager, Keating Building Corporation worked with Rutgers University, Robert Wood Johnson Hospital, Linpro Development Company and the Hillier Group Architects in a partnering approach that achieved the construction of this 562,000 sq ft mixed-use facility on-time and under budget. An award-winner, the University Center at Easton Avenue project was recognized for excellence and the team presented with a Merit Award by the New Jersey Concrete and Aggregate Association. The physical constraints of this urban site required extensive coordination and phasing to permit space for construction activities, lay down and accessibility for material and equipment deliveries, while maintaining minimal disruption to traffic on the bordering City streets, as well as ongoing University and Hospital operations. The 12-story, 562,000 sq ft mixed-use development includes seven upper levels of apartment-style dormitory housing, five levels of structured parking for 960 vehicles, a 6,400 sq ft University Fitness Center, and 14,000 sq ft of University-related retail space at street level. Residences for Rutgers’ students consisted of two bedroom apartments, each with a kitchen and living room to accommodate four students per unit. The end result is 280,000 sq ft of space for 672 students. |
